KIXOperator, the ATM management tool
for a higher quality of information
KIXOperator is a multivendor solution for monitoring, administration, remote control and optimization of self-service terminals and the link to other processes in a self-service network (e.g. cash management). Thus KIXOperator helps to optimize all managenemt processes of a self-service network and reduces the total cost of ownership of the self-service terminals.
KIXOperator is the monitoring and management solution of one of the world largest multivendor solution (24.000 self-service terminals).
KIXOperator offers:
Increased availability and profitability of the whole self-service network
- Early alerting of forthcoming failures and immediate notification of acute failures by e-mail or text messages
- Monitoring and controlling of the processes and resources of a self-service terminal
- Automatic process recovery in case of a crashed process
- 7x24 hours monitoring of the self-service terminals
- High-quality overview by offering detailed information about the self-service network - wherever, whenever.
- High availability of the self-service terminals increases the revenue from transaction fees.
- Reduced development costs. All the management tasks for a self-service terminal can be delegated to KIXOperator
- Optimized support for the self-service network
- Faster problem determination due to real-time information about the self-service terminals and remote access to the self-service terminals.
- Reduced number of on-site visits and optimized service calls
- Reuse of the existing infrastructure and know how of a data processing center
KIXOperator is developed as a modern J2EE application. Thus it uses the web servers, application servers, database platforms, network infrastructure and knowledge for these IT components which are already available and proven.
The ability for customization and customer-specific extensions
- The modular architecture of the whole solution, numerous public interfaces and the possibility to customize the behaviour of the application makes it possible to adapt the application to fulfill all different kinds of customer requirements.
- The KIXOperator interfaces and the data stored in the KIXOperator database can be used by other IT solutions or KIXOperator extensions as well (e.g. a Cash Management Solution, a Trouble Ticket Solution, an Advertisement Solution, a Business-Intelligence Solution, a Camera Solution, and so on).
- The scalability of the solution is proven in networks of 20 to 24,000 terminals
Vendor neutral view on the self-service network
- Using standard interfaces (e.g. CEN/XFS, J/XFS, WMI, and so on)
- Using vendor specific interfaces if they help to reduce the operating costs or help to increase the cost effectiveness of the self-service terminals.
Additional Services
- Distributing files to the self-service terminals and uploading files from the self-service terminals
- Direct access to information stored on the self-service terminals via the KIXOperator Agent (e.g. cash counters, hard disk usage, active processes, active services and so on).
- Taking a screenshot of all active screens (customer and operator screen of a self-service terminal)
- Hardware- and software inventory of the self-service terminals
- Inspection of journal files and trace files stored on the self-service terminals (e.g. used to forward transaction data or error information recorded in the files stored on the self-service terminals)
- Using the KIXOperator Agent services for repeated tasks (e.g.: continous and time-controlled backup jobs and disk cleaning routines, sending event messages within batch jobs to operate the flow of these jobs by remote control)
Details
The KIXOperator consists of:
- KIXOperator Agent
- KIXOperator Server
- KIXOperator Database
- KIXOperator Watcher
- KIXOperator SMS Gateway
KIXOperator Agent
- The highlights of the KIXOperator Agent, which will be installed on the self-service terminals, are:
- Java implementation to support different operating systems of the self-service terminals
- Robust framework to use the KIXOperator Agent for different kinds of management activities
- Numerous plugins used for monitoring and administration of the self-service terminals and the connection to different Systems Management Applications
- Monitoring of the operating system (Windows and Linux)
- Monitoring of the XFS peripheral devices (XFS2, XFS3 and J/XFS)
- Monitoring and remote administration of the processes running on the self-service terminals
- File inspection (parsing and inspection of log files and trace files)
- File transfer
- Monitoring of the other components of the SBS KIX product family (KIXCustomer, KIXLocalServices, and so on)
- Connection to the KIXOperator Server
- Connection to a SNMP manager (forwarding events with SNMP traps)
- Highly extendable by adding new plugins to the KIXOperator Agent (e.g. a plugin to monitor and control a customer specific self-service application)
- An independent process running on the self-service terminals in parallel to the existing self-service applications. This protects existing development efforts and investments into the current self-service applications
- Running the KIXOperator Agent as a Windows service/Unix daemon or normal application
- Installing the KIXOperator Agent with a Windows installation routine, Java WebStart or with an unattended installation routine using a response file.
KIXOperator Server
- Web access via intranet or internet
- Flexible concept of roles and permissions for modelling organizational structures
- Multi language support
- Multi time zone support for the terminals and users
- Connections to other self-service products via WebService- or EJB-interfaces
- Storing all data collected by the KIXOperator Agents
- User master data
- Full inventory data of every self-service terminal (i.e. type, location, configuration etc.)
- Interfaces for data exchange with other systems
- Sending e-mail or SMS text message to alert the users about the detected problems
- Monitoring the network connection to the self-service terminals
- Asynchronous processing of the commands sent to the self-service terminals
- High availability and scalability of the solution by making best usage of the J2EE infrastructure (failover and load balancing mechanism)
- Support for numerous different platforms and systems due to the used J2EE middleware
- Numerous loosely coupled components and services that can be extended in a customer specific way or replaced by a customer specific implementation
KIXOperator Database
- All data stored in a central database
- Support for most popular database platforms
IBM DB2 Universal Database, IBM DB2 for z/OS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Multi-institution database design
- Highly optimized database access to preserve the central resources (optimized z/OS MIPS consumption)
KIXOperator Watcher
- KIXOperator Agent with special plugins to monitor central systems
The KIXOperator Watcher normally is installed as an additional process on the existing server systems.
- IBM WebSphere Application Server monitoring (status of the containers and the JMS server)
- Monitoring of databases (status of the database connections, the database re-organisation status, and the database indices)
- Monitoring of web applications
KIXOperator SMS Gateway
- Sending text messages by means of a GSM hardware module or a direct connection to a GSM provider
